Bing and Google in deals with Twitter and Facebook

If you’re a Tweetin, technie nerd like (some of) us, you’ll probaby already know the latest big search engine news from the current Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco:

It is that both Bing and Google announced yesterday that they will soon be including Tweets in their search results. And, what’s more, Bing will soon be including Facebook updates.

Managing your Twitter and Facebook accounts

Managing your social media marketing campaign needs careful consideration as time will be a factor if you’re doing it all yourself.  You also need to consider how you can measure the success of the campaign as nobody wants to do all this Tweeting and posting for nothing.

Building up followers and fans and interacting with them takes up a lot of time. So how much time should you spend on it if you’re a SME owner doing all this yourself?

Twitter and Facebook: Tweeting and posting

So now you’ve set up Twitter and Facebook as part of your new internet marketing strategy, what are you going to do with them?

You need to consider carefully how you’re going to interact with your followers and fans since the idea of social media is that it should be treated a bit like face to face networking in that it shouldn’t necessarily be blasted with blatant advertising. (more…)

Starting out with Twitter and Facebook

Just come back from a thought provoking seminar on social media marketing – specifically Twitter and Facebook. Being a SEO professional of course I already knew how to set these things up and keep them going… or did I?

Well three hours of questions, answers and networking was certainly enough to wipe the smug, all knowing smile off my face. Why? Because it (a) reminded me that many people do not know the first thing about Twitter, Facebook and (b) made me realise that all this time I’d been doing it wrong. Not completely wrong maybe, but not totally right either. For the benefit of those novice Twits..er…Twitterers who are wondering where to start, let’s start at the beginning. (more…)

Top tip for Twitterers

TweetDeckIf you’re a Twitterer that loves Tweeting (also called a Twit by Andrew, our CEO), one useful free SEO tool you can download is TweetDeck.

It’s easy to gain followers on Twitter if you post regular Tweets on topics that people are interested in. However, if you can engage in exchanges with other Twitterers it makes them take a closer interest in what you have to offer and is a more effective SEO tactic.

TweetDeck allows you to keep track of what is being Tweeted about. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the application and then uploaded your Twitter login details, you can view a panel of real time information on your followers. This allows you to respond right away to anything they may tweet about. You can use the panel to submit your own Tweets, make searches, upload a photo and even record 12 second videos to share with your followers. You can also synchronise the panel with your Facebook profile to keep track of your friends’ statuses and post updates to your own Facebook profile, although so far this doesn’t work with your Facebook business page .

One really useful tool on TweetDeck is the ability to shorten urls. If you’re Tweeting a link, you can often find that the limited Tweet space of 140 characters is even more restricted if the url link is quite long. TweetDeck will shorten those urls to make your Tweet more meaningful.

You can install TweetDeck on your PC or, if you’re really techo-savvy, your iPhone. Here at Suncoast Internet we’ve found that Twittering every now again as part of our SEO process led to Twitter being our 3rd highest referral site. So what are you waiting for? Start building your own Twitter network and get Tweeting today!
