Bing and Google in deals with Twitter and Facebook

If you’re a Tweetin, technie nerd like (some of) us, you’ll probaby already know the latest big search engine news from the current Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco:

It is that both Bing and Google announced yesterday that they will soon be including Tweets in their search results. And, what’s more, Bing will soon be including Facebook updates.

Do your Internet Marketing research – carefully!

For us Internet Marketing people Down Unda, it can get a little frustrating trying to do the research necessary in this role with tools and information that are so dominated by the US market.

For example, with keyword research, so far only Google gives us Australia specific information on popular keywords that are used in internet searches. And, in trying to assess which search engines are the most popular among Australian users, there is very little research around that isn’t based solely on US statistics.

Doors no doodle for Google

GoogleGoogle the poodle here again.

What ON EARTH is going on round this office? Everybody knows that I’M the chief meeter and greeter in the office but lately a lot of doors seem to have been shut in my face and I have been prevented from carrying out my duties, as outlined in my job description.

I can’t understand it. Clients love my tap dancing welcome routine on the laminate floor boards as they come through the door; they adore it when I jump up and down a lot to say hello; and they love it when I bring them little cuddly bear gifts – even when I don’t let them keep it. So what’s the big idea? (more…)

Google Trends experiment result

Mmm… well, the results are slightly inconclusive but here goes.

The Google Trends blog post got 55 hits on the day it was published but it did not feature highly in Google results for either of the Hot Trends keywords (‘Mark Webber’ and ‘Michael Jackson’s autopsy picture’) we were trying to take advantage of. On the other hand, the good news is that, at the time of publishing, we’re on the second page of Google AU for ‘Google Trends’ and in pole position for ‘Google Trends SEO’. Woo hoo!

Why?

About Google

The name’s Google… Google the poodle. I’m the chief meeter and greeter at Suncoast Internet. I take my role as guardian of the reception desk very seriously and I ensure each visitor is given a thorough welcome…whether they like it or not.

My job description includes spotting visitors before the rest of the staff, jumping up and down with excitement and running from room to room in a display of total and utter (workplace appropriate) joy. Visitors can also expect additional welcome apparatus in the form of a Winnie the Pooh or, if they are really well behaved, a piece of paper from a waste paper bin, as this will help them in their meeting.

I prefer to be included in important meetings as there are key contributions that I can make. If people have forgotten to invite me into the meeting room, I always make it my business to remind them about it by making the relevant "what about me" noises outside as, currently, I can’t quite reach the door handle.

I also help keep the staff in check as sometimes they can become unruly. See photo for an illustration of my HR techniques.

If you need advice about how to conduct yourself, your visitors or your staff in the workplace, just ask Google.

Woof woof for now.

It’s a dog’s life

Any visitors to Suncoast Internet’s office will already be familiar with Google the office poodle. As the smallest member of the admin staff, our little woolly friend’s day consists of a busy whirl of meeting and greeting. And when he’s not barking ferociously at the police dogs across the way (from behind the safety of an upstairs window), he’s offering the additional services of Winnie the Pooh and Super Bear to any obliging clients. It really is quite amazing how large and soppy those poodle eyes can become at the merest whiff of food; Google’s nose and paws are a permanent fixture at the lunch table where he enjoys eating anything that humans eat – as long as it’s not a vegetable. Google’s office duties also include toe licking, going for walkies and rearranging paperwork from the waste bin to the… er… floor. If you would like to meet Google in person, you will find him either tucked under the counter of the reception desk or keeping watch next to the front door. You can be sure of an enthusiastic  welcome – just don’t wear any thongs!
