Suncoast Internet back in the groove for 2010

It’s surprising what a couple of weeks rest and relaxation can do for the morale…and for inspiration. Now that the festive season is once again behind us we can look forward to producing some more fabulous website designs for our valued clients and coming up with a few unique Internet Marketing ideas to enhance our client’s businesses. We have already set some major goals to achieve this year and we’re surprised at how easy it’s been to get the ball rolling. The staff are keen and receptive and have their best foot on the pedal. This just demonstrates that Suncoast Internet has some great personnel working for the company and that’s a wonderful benefit to our existing clients and our future clients.

Photographer snaps celebs and starlets

The long-awaited photo shoot of the celebrities and starlets of Suncoast Internet finally arrived this week when Sunshine Coast professional photographer, Guy Halliday, worked up a real sweat to get a few hundred snaps of the well-dressed staff for our new corporate brochure.

Despite the fact that this impending session was delayed for a month or two while waiting for our new uniforms, we were still not completely organised on the day with client meetings going on in separate rooms while Guy busily set up his equipment in the matchbox space he was allotted.

Nonetheless, the girls and boys looked fabulous in their new uniforms and along with recent haircuts and restyling; they all looked a pretty picture. Of course the proof will be in the finished product and Guy will really earn his fee with all the airbrushing needed to eliminate the shadows, red eyes and rabbit ear victory signs.

And not forgetting Google the Starstruck Poodle who relished the opportunity to be photographed in his best suit, duly cut, brushed and styled.

Watch this space for a photo preview.

If he can-do it, so can we!

I attended the community forum last night and was suitably impressed by the can-do positive attitude of Paul Pisasale. If Big Bob can engender the same positive outlook towards our future and convince the State and Federal Government of the need to support the Council’s plans, then I’m sure we can emulate the achievements of Mr Pisasale and the Ipswich City Council.

Go Maroons!!

Wally Lewis and Mark Geyer

Go Maroons!! Give the cockroaches a hammering and make it 3-zip. This office is right behind you (except we have one poor ex-NSW body who is ducking for cover). A big Boo and Hiss to Trent Barrett and whoever the video referee may be (they always stand on the side of NSW). Bring back the BIFF.

Go Suncoast Girls!

In a male dominated industry such as IT, Suncoast Internet is proud of its fine ratio of girls to boys amongst its staff. Currently, it’s believed that only 15-20 percent of Australia’s IT workforce are women. In the UK it’s even lower.

While many women in IT find it to be rewarding and satisfying career, the reasons women give for leaving the industry are to do with age old inequalities such as work/life balance, wage and social discrimination.

But at Suncoast Internet, the fact is that 67 percent of the full time staff on site is women. That’s more than three times the national average! Recently joining the Suncoast team, programmer extraordinaire Megan Cotton from Megabits says “I’ve never worked in an environment where there was more than one other female programmer”.

The ladies at Suncoast Internet have a number of varied roles, including training, search engine optimisation, web design and development, as well as admin and sales.

With the news that there has been a staggering 51 percent decline in the number of women studying IT in Australia since 2001, it seems Suncoast Internet’s unusual staffing structure will remain unique for some time to come.

But while the girls are happy not to be discriminated against by men in the IT workplace for a change, spare a thought for those poor blokes. Professional copywriter Alan Lunday complains that he didn’t get the chance to choose his office uniform, unlike the girls who got the opportunity to try on several different kinds recently!

It’s a dog’s life

Any visitors to Suncoast Internet’s office will already be familiar with Google the office poodle. As the smallest member of the admin staff, our little woolly friend’s day consists of a busy whirl of meeting and greeting. And when he’s not barking ferociously at the police dogs across the way (from behind the safety of an upstairs window), he’s offering the additional services of Winnie the Pooh and Super Bear to any obliging clients. It really is quite amazing how large and soppy those poodle eyes can become at the merest whiff of food; Google’s nose and paws are a permanent fixture at the lunch table where he enjoys eating anything that humans eat – as long as it’s not a vegetable. Google’s office duties also include toe licking, going for walkies and rearranging paperwork from the waste bin to the… er… floor. If you would like to meet Google in person, you will find him either tucked under the counter of the reception desk or keeping watch next to the front door. You can be sure of an enthusiastic  welcome – just don’t wear any thongs!

Australia’s next top model?

Calling all glossy magazines – the Suncoast Internet ladies are getting ready for their photo shoot next week! In preparation for Suncoast Internet’s new corporate brochure, the team are having a photo session with a professional photographer. The brochure will undoubtedly show off the fine ratio of women to men that Suncoast Internet is proud to have; an unusual proportion in the IT industry. Unfortunately this means that the menfolk are currently putting up with a lot of fretting in the office over how the impending glamour shots will turn out. And the latest rumblings are that the graphic designer may well be employed to airbrush any imperfections. Ready for your close up now? Only if you’ve got a hairdresser with you…
